Friday’s 9-0 win over Northwestern earned Long Beach State softball it’s seventh consecutive victory, and its best start in program history.
The 49ers (11-1) have a challenging weekend ahead at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs. LBSU will play No. 12 Auburn Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on No. 1 Washington and No. 19 California on Sunday.
LBSU sophomore Cielo Meza (6-0) delivered her fourth complete game of the season while striking out six and dropping her ERA to 0.82.
Lauren MacLeod hit a three-run home run in the second inning, and Jessica Flores drove in two more with a double in the third. Naomi Hernandez and Julia Lombardi scored in the sixth on a double from Jamie Wren, and LBSU took the victory in a shortened game.
LBSU has outscored its opponents 96-37 with 11 homes runs and a .524 slugging percentage. Freshman Naomi Hernandez and Flores lead the team with 13 RBIs, and Hernandez has a team-high 13 runs scored.
