When we first started working on building The562.org we were excited about creating a world-class website that will feature all the videos, articles, and photo galleries our readers have come to expect from us over the last decade.
But we also thought about those special moments when parents get to see their kids’ names in the newspaper for the first time, or when we’ve been in athletes’ houses and seen photos from the paper cut out and stuck on the refrigerator.
That’s why today we’re happy to announce that we’ve formed a partnership with our friends at the Grunion Gazette newspaper to continue producing a weekly, all-Long Beach sports section. The Grunion will be the print home of The562.org going forward, and if you see an article you love on our website, you can plan on seeing it in the next Thursday edition of the Grunion.
“I’m very happy that Grunion Gazette readers will continue to be able to read Mike and JJ’s coverage of the Long Beach teams, as there is nothing quite like having your name and photo in the local paper,” said Gazette publisher Simon Grieve. “We’ve had an eight-year relationship with them that’s produced a lot of statewide awards but more importantly coverage that’s really vital to the community.”
Just as important to us that there will still be a print presence for our work is that it’s at the Grunion. The staff there cares deeply about the city, and the newspaper is free each Thursday, which means that everyone can afford to pick up a copy each week.
