HIGH SCHOOL

Randy Gonzalez, Lakewood Wrestling

Randy Gonzales did his family proud and solidified his legacy as one of Lakewood’s best wrestlers last weekend with a third-place finish at the CIF State meet in the 285-pound weight class. It’s the highest finish for a Lakewood wrestler in a decade; earlier this year Gonzalez became the third member of his family to win an individual CIF-SS title.

Sierra Adams-Gregory, Millikan Wrestling

Millikan junior Sierra Adams-Gregory continued her run as one of the city’s best female wrestlers, one of the trailblazers in the young sport. Adams-Gregory finished third at the CIF State meet in the 189-pound weight class, helping boost Millikan to an eighth-place team finish at the state meet along with two other teammates who also placed.

COLLEGE

Cielo Meza, Long Beach State Softball

Sophomore Cielo Meza threw the 27th no-hitter in Long Beach State history against No. 21 Minnesota last weekend, striking out 11 in just one of three great performances. Over 17.0 innings last week, Meza allowed just one hit to improve to 9-0 in the 2018 season.

Victor Villareal, Long Beach City College Volleyball

The LBBC men’s volleyball team improved to 12-0 on the season last week with a pair of sweeps, as California’s best team continued to be unbeatable. Sophomore middle blocker Victor Villareal continued to be a big part of his team’s success with nine kills and five blocks against Pierce and eight kills on 10 swings and an ace against Santa Barbara.
