A slow start in Sunday’s series finale doomed Long Beach State at No. 8 Texas A&M in a 5-1 loss. The Dirtbags (5-11) only scored one run in each of the three games in College Station, Texas.
The Aggies (16-1) scored four unearned runs in the second inning to take early command of the game. LBSU’s bullpen quartet of Dylan Spacke (2 IP), Adam Seminaris (IP), Eli Villalobos (IP), and Chris Rivera (IP) combined to pitch seven scoreless innings. The Aggies had just two baserunners after the third inning.
Dirtbags right fielder Brooks Stotler reached on an error In the seventh and was brought home on a two-out RBI single from first baseman Garrett Nelson to make it 5-1. Second baseman Jarren Duran had five hits and a run scored in the series.
The Dirtbags start a four-game homestand on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Washington State. LBSU hosts a three-game series with Tulane next weekend at Blair Field.
