THURSDAY

Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. UC Santa Barbara, 7 p.m.

The No. 1 49ers (17-0, 2-0) are playing No. 14 UC Santa Barbara twice in two days. After hosting the Gauchos tonight, the 49ers will travel to face their new Big West rivals on their own turf Friday night. UCSB (9-5, 2-0) is on a five-match winning streak after losing four of five games on the road. The Gauchos are only hitting .258 as a team. LBSU is hitting .406 and its opponents are hitting .168.

High School Softball, 3:15 p.m.

The Moore League schedule starts today as five-time defending league champions Lakewood takes on Poly at Joe Rodgers. In other action, Millikan is hosting Jordan while Wilson travels to Compton. Lakewood and Millikan are playing on Tuesday in the first big matchup of the season. These rivalry games between the Lancers and Rams has decided the league champion in each of the last five years.

Long Beach State Softball vs. Monmouth, 2 p.m.

No. 22 LBSU (20-7) has had a huge week at home before traveling to Los Angeles for three games this weekend. The 49ers celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for new locker rooms at the LBSU Softball Complex on Wednesday by beating Texas Tech. LBSU is participating in the Loyola Marymount Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

High School Badminton, 3 p.m.

The first round of Moore League play is almost over, and league leaders Poly is at home today facing Jordan. Elsewhere, Millikan hosts Cabrillo and Lakewood travels to Compton. The second half of the league schedule starts next week.

Long Beach State Beach Volleyball vs. Florida State, 4:15 p.m.

The 49ers (3-1) almost upset No. 1 Pepperdine last week, and have a chance to take down No. 4 Florida State in the second of two games on campus today. LBSU will also face No. 20 TCU at 12:45 p.m. today.

High School Boys’ Volleyball, 4:30 p.m.

The second week of Moore League play ends with Lakewood hosting Compton, Poly traveling to Jordan and Millikan visiting Cabrillo. PHOTOS from Lakewood’s win over Millikan on Tuesday.

High School Boys’ Tennis, 3 p.m.

All eight Moore League teams are in action today as Lakewood hosts Millikan in the marquee matchup. Elsewhere, Poly is hosting Cabrillo and Wilson is hosting Compton while Jordan travels to CAMS.

Long Beach City College Softball, 3 p.m.

Long Beach City College Baseball, 2:30 p.m.

High School Swimming, 3 p.m.

This is the first day of Moore League competition for both boys’ and girls’ teams. Poly is at Millikan while Wilson travels to Lakewood and Jordan hosts Cabrillo.

Long Beach State Dirtbags vs. Tulane, 6 p.m.

After hosting Washington State on Wednesday, the Dirtbags (5-11) are back at Blair Field this weekend for three games against Tulane. LBSU is 5-6 at home this season. Tulane (8-8) hasn’t won a road game, but took a game off of Cal State Fullerton earlier this month. Junior Grant Witherspoon has 16 RBIs in 16 games with a team-high three home runs and a .567 slugging percentage. The series continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and concludes at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

SATURDAY

Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo at UC Davis, noon

This is the second consecutive Saturday that No. 15 LBSU (8-9, 1-0) is hosting a Big West game at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center. No. 10 UC Davis (15-7) has won four straight games. This is only the third road game for the Mustangs.

Long Beach State Women’s Tennis vs. Purdue, 11 a.m.

LBSU had its match last weekend against Big West Conference foe UC Davis cancelled due to heavy rain. The 49ers had to wait a whole week to get back in action against Purdue in a nonconference contest at Rhodes Tennis Center.
