Freshman Adam Seminaris’ best start helped Long Beach State (6-11) pick up a comfortable 5-1 victory over Washington State (4-9) on Wednesday night at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Seminaris gave up three hits and one run in seven innings while striking out a career-high seven without any walks. He threw 61 of his 86 pitches for strikes and retired the Cougars in order in four innings. Junior Eli Villalobos struck out three in his two innings of scoreless relief.
LBSU scored three times in the first inning behind Seminaris. Brooks Stotler drove in Clayton Andrews, and he and Laine Huffman scored on started the rally with a one-out single and was brought home on a line-drive RBI knock by Brooks Stotler freshman Leonard Jones’ 2-out 2-RBI single. Freshman catcher Chris Jimenez had an RBI double in the fifth to score Jarren Duran, and Huffman drove in Duran in the sixth.
The Dirtbags start a three-game home series against Tulane at 6 p.m. on Friday.
