The Long Beach Powernet Birdz won the 13 and under division of the Las Vegas Battle Born Tournament last weekend in Nevada by beating Las Vegas Smash 11-7 in the championship game. The Birdz won all four of their games while posting an impressive .502 team batting average.
Holden Hungerford led the way on the mound with a pair of wins with a 0.00 ERA. Matty Fournier collected the win in relief in the championship game.
Matty Fournier, Jay Carr, and Anthony Eyanson all had home runs in the tournament, and Carson Chavez hit a grand slam to break up a 7-7 tie in the championship game. Eyanson had a .846 batting average for the weekend with eight triples.
The LV Smash threatened in the top of the 7th inning, but right fielder Owen Shawhad threw out a runner at the plate to end the game and the tournament.
