Welcome to this week’s The562.org Athletes of the Week.
HIGH SCHOOL
Rachel Glenn, Wilson Track & Field
Wilson’s Rachel Glenn planted a flag on Saturday at El Camino College as the Bruin cleared 5’11” in the high jump. Glenn’s mark was the top in the nation so far this year, and would have been the top mark at last year’s state championship, where the winner cleared 5’8” and failed to clear 5’10”. She also won the 400 with a time of 56.93.
Moises Guzman, Millikan Baseball
Millikan centerfielder Moises Guzman started the Moore League season with a bang last week, stroking a leadoff triple in the league’s first at-bat. Guzman went on to score the game’s first run and also doubled in what ended up being the game’s winning run in the sixth inning, putting Millikan up 4-2 in a game they won 4-3.
COLLEGE
Tyler Radcliffe, Long Beach State baseball
The Wilson alum had a sensational Sunday, picking up the win in a 1-0 victory over Tulane, which gave the Dirtbags the series win as well. Radcliffe threw a career-best 7 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six. Radcliffe retired the final 11 batters he faced. READ MORE about Radcliffe.
Taylor Rowland, Long Beach State Softball
The Long Beach State softball team went 5-0 last week, thanks in large part to the power-packed heroics of Taylor Rowland. In the 49ers’ final four games, the sophomore went 10/13 at the plate with 14 RBI and two runs. She also hit three doubles and a pair of homeruns in those four games.
