FROM LBSU REPORTS
Behind a brilliant all-around performance from junior Clayton Andrews, Long Beach State (10-14) earned a 3-1 victory over rival Cal State Fullerton (9-12) in Sunday’s rubber match at Goodwin Field.
Andrews got the start on the mound, holding the Titans scoreless through the first seven innings as neither team was able to push a run across until the eighth. In the top of the inning, Andrews found himself with a great RBI opportunity and didn’t miss it. After two walks had Shaq Robinson on third and Jarren Duran at first with just one out, Andrews jumped all over the first pitch he saw, crushing a triple to right center to bring in both runners. Andrews would later score on an error to make it 3-0 Dirtbags, giving LBSU the lead for good.

Fullerton was able to get a run back in the bottom of the inning, but that was all they could muster as junior Chris Rivera earned his seventh save of the season. Andrews finished the day with a career-high 7.2 innings pitched, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts. At the plate, he was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. His triple was his third of the series, recording one in every game against the Titans.
Long Beach State has now won its last three road series against Cal State Fullerton dating back to 2016. Over the past year, the Dirtbags and Titans have played a total of 12 times, with LBSU going 8-4 in those contests.
Next up on the schedule is a Tuesday home game against San Diego State, followed by a road series at Fresno State next weekend to close out the non-conference schedule.
