A full list of local sports events coming up this weekend.
THURSDAY
High School Baseball, 3:15 p.m.
Today is the last day of Moore League action until April 11 because of spring break. Poly is taking on Cabrillo at Blair Field while Lakewood hosts Compton on campus.
High School Softball, 3:15 p.m.
This is also the last day of league games for almost two weeks. Wilson is hosting Jordan at Joe Rodgers while Cabrillo visits Millikan and Compton travels to first-place Lakewood.
Long Beach State Dirtbags at Fresno State, 6 p.m.
After falling to No. 23 San Diego State on Tuesday at home, the Dirtbags are back on the road this weekend for three nonconference games in Fresno. The weekend series was moved up a day because of the holiday on Sunday. Fresno State (13-10) is 12-4 at home but has lost four of its last six games. Zach Ashford has a team-high .395 batting average, and the Bulldogs have 20 home runs as a team.
High School Boys’ Volleyball, 4:30 p.m.
Lakewood is running away with the Moore League, and the Lancers close out the first round of league play today by hosting Jordan. In other action, Wilson is at Millikan and Poly is hosting Cabrillo.
High School Boys’ Tennis, 3 p.m.
The second round of Moore League play starts today with first-place Poly hosting Wilson. The Bruins and Millikan Rams are tied for second place with one league loss. Millikan is at Jordan today while Compton travels to Lakewood and Cabrillo hosts CAMS.
High School Badminton, 3 p.m.
There are only five match days left in the Moore League schedule. League leader Poly is at Cabrillo while Wilson hosts Millikan and Lakewood travels to Jordan.
FRIDAY
High School Swimming, 1:30 p.m.
The entire Moore League will be at the Belmont Outdoor Pool this afternoon for the third day of the Klaus Barth Meet. The boys’ and girls’ were on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. UC Irvine, 7 p.m.
The No. 1 49ers are hosting the No. 4 UC Irvine Anteaters in the first of two matches in as many days between these top teams. They will play on Saturday in Irvine at the same time. LBSU beat UCI three times last season, including in the MPSF Tournament, and the Anteaters haven’t beaten the 49ers wince 2015.
Long Beach State Softball vs. Hawaii, 1 p.m.
The Big West Conference schedule starts today as No. 18 LBSU hosts Hawaii. The two will play a doubleheader starting at the same time. The 49ers have won all five Big West series’ against Hawaii since it joined the conference. Hawaii has only played three road games this season.
SATURDAY
Long Beach State Beach Volleyball at Big West Challenge
The No. 5 49ers finish a nine-match week with two days in Sacramento for the Big West Challenge. LBSU takes on Cal State Northridge, CSU Bakersfield and No. 3 Hawaii today before facing No. 7 Cal Poly and Sacramento State on Sunday.
Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo vs. Cal State Northridge, 12 p.m.
It’s senior day for the 49ers as they continue Big West play in their final match at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center. LBSU hosts Brown on Thursday in nonconference action. CSUN (15-12, 0-1) is 1-3 on the road this season.
Long Beach State Women’s Tennis at UC Santa Barbara, 11 a.m.
After playing Cal Poly on Friday, the 49ers continue their Big West road trip on Interstate 101 with a match against the Gouaches. UCSB (6-10, 2-0) is tied for first place in the conference with Fullerton. LBSU is a game back, and Cal Poly is tied for last. UCSB is 3-4 at home this season.
