East Long Beach Visited By Scammers Posing As Millikan Students

At this point it’s almost a springtime tradition in East Long Beach that scammers will roam the sidewalks going door-to-door, faking a connection to Millikan High to try and bilk people out of some pocket change.

In previous years scammers have passed out flyers and asked for cash, this year it’s selling fake discount cards.

Millikan boys’ athletic director Kevin Marchael lives in the neighborhood and had someone come to his door Monday evening selling fake discount cards.

“He was wearing a Milllikan volleyball sweater saying he was on the football team,” said Marchael. “When I told him I didn’t know him he said he just moved here from New York. I asked him when he transferred in and he said he couldn’t remember.”

If you’d like to make a donation to the football program, there are phone numbers for the school’s athletic personnel listed on the school’s website. Students are never asked to go door-to-door, something Marchael pointed out last year during the last round of scammer visits.

“Kids are not allowed to go door-to-door on behalf of the school,” he said. “If anyone comes to your door and says they’re from Millikan, don’t do it.”
