Lakewood High alum Jessica Scroggins has been on ESPN more than any other local softball product with recent appearances on the top 10 plays countdown. On Monday, the Baylor senior outfielder made more news by being selected by the Chicago Bandits in the third round with the 15th overall of the 2018 National Pro Fast Pitch draft.
Scroggins is a two-time All Big 12 defensive team member and reigning defensive player of the year.
“Thank you to the Chicago Bandits for giving me an opportunity,” Scroggins told the Baylor Lariat. “I’m excited to start off this next part of my career with such a great organization.”
Scroggins is a career .356 hitter with 220 career starts for Baylor coach Glenn Moore. She is Baylor’s all-time hits leader, and is seventh in the nation with a .468 batting average.
“Scroggs is one of the most talented athletes I’ve ever coached,” Moore told the Baylor Lariat. “This has been a dream of hers for a long time. Baylor Softball is very proud tonight.”
In other local softball alumni news, North Dakota State infielder Zoe Stavrou won her second-career Summit League Player of the Week award. The Wilson High alum hit .700 last week with a .636 on base percentage. She had a career-best 4-for-4 performance with her first home run of the season in the sweep sealing victory against South Dakota.
