“That game was for the seniors,” Wilson coach George Molina said. “It was their moment and they all contributed.”
Wilson senior pitcher Joey Vega stuck out six consecutive batters and finished with eight strikeouts while scattering three hits. She also had a hit and scored three times.
“I was more nervous because of my family being here,” said Vega, who wore a LAPD pin on her visor to pay tribute to her father and uncle who are both police officers.
Wilson senior second baseman Katelyn Howard had two triples and three RBIs. Junior Michelle Dominguez had a pair of RBI singles. The Bruins scored five runs in the first inning while batting around.
Wilson (11-12, 7-0) is still two games ahead of the rest of the Moore League, and takes on second-place Lakewood and Millikan in its next two games.
“We have to focus now and practice harder than we ever have,” Howard said. “These are going to be the biggest games in a couple of years for us.”
