St. Anthony won its second Camino Real League title in just its third year of existence, and the Saints marched into the postseason this week by making more history.
Senior Phillip Smith shot a 158 at Knollwood Country Club to win the 2018 Camino Real League Individual Tournament on Thursday, and he’s the second player in school history to do so.
“I did my best to not think about my score,” Smith said. “All I focused on was my pre-shot routine and my target line. This allowed me to have fun and still play competitively. ”
Smith and teammates Alex Palacio (2nd) and Taylor Griffiths (4th) all qualify for the CIF Individual Regionals at Skylinks on Monday.
“His expectations for himself are high,” St. Anthony coach Chris McGuiness said. “Even after winning the league championship, he was thinking of ways he could have been better. This kid is always trying to be the best at all he does, on the course and in the classroom.”
