The No. 20 Long Beach State softball team swept a doubleheader at Cal State Northridge on Friday to clinch a second-place finish in the Big West Conference. The 49ers (42-11, 16-4) racked up 23 hits and 16 runs in the two games.
LBSU used a five-run inning to beat CSUN 7-6 in the first game, and then ran away with a 9-1 victory in five innings to finish the sweep. Right fielder Julia Lombardi hit her fourth home run of the season and finished the day with four hits, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
In the circle, Jessica Flores finished out the first game for LBSU to collect her 10th win of the year, and her eighth complete game. In the second game, sophomore Cielo Meza struck out seven in a complete game performance, giving up one hit and one unearned run on the way to her 22nd win of the season.
The regular season concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m. and it will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
