The Long Beach State Dirtbags kept their slim Big West title hopes alive for at least one more day by riding a stellar start from junior Clayton Andrews in a 8-0 win at Hawaii on Saturday. Conference-leading Cal State Fullerton’s magic number is now one. The Titans visit LBSU for the final series of the regular season.
The Dirtbags (26-27, 11-9 Big West) have won eight of their last nine games.
Andrews didn’t allow a hit until the top of the seventh inning while striking out seven. The left-handed pitcher/center fielder lowered his ERA to 2.18, and his WHIP to 0.982.
LBSU scored seven runs in the first four innings. Shaq Robinson had two RBIs with a double and a triple. Jarren Duran had three RBIs, and Brooks Stotler had an inside-the-park three-run home run. It was the first inside-the-park home run for a Dirtbag since Jeff Yamaguchi hit one on Apr. 7, 2013 at Pacific.
LBSU will go for its second series sweep of the season on Sunday. The Dirtbags will send freshman LHP Adam Seminaris (1-5, 4.59 ERA) to the mound, and first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. PT.
