Long Beach State Softball Season Comes To An End

Long Beach State softball lost to Ole Miss for a second time on Saturday night and was eliminated from the Tempe Regional. The 49ers (43-14) eliminated New Mexico State 9-0 to extend their season before a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to end the year.

Senior Jessica Flores pitched every inning for LBSU on Saturday. She allowed seven hits and one run in 13 innings. Flores struck out six in her 12th win of the season against New Mexico State, and held Ole Miss hitless through the first four innings.

LBSU bounced back from a blowout loss to Ole Miss on Friday by scoring eight runs in the first inning against New Mexico State to kick off the action on Saturday. Nichole Fry and Naomi Hernandez each had two hits at the top of the LBSU lineup. Fry and Jamie Wren both both had two RBIs. Tierra Falo reached three times after getting hit three times, the most in any game this season for a 49er.

LBSU loaded the bases with one out in the sixth against Ole Miss, but couldn’t break the scoreless tie. Ole Miss scored the only run of the game in the bottom half of the inning.

This year, LBSU set team records with 486 hits and 91 doubles. The 49ers also tied for the best ever batting average (.306) in program history.
