The reconfiguration of the Long Beach State men’s basketball program under 12th year coach Dan Monson continued on Wednesday when the university announced that Bobby Braswell will return as an assistant coach and Myke Scholl has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Former graduate manager Jerry Woods has also been hired as the new Director of Basketball Operations.
“I am confident that this staff will recruit and develop student athletes to represent the Beach in a first class manner as well as leading Beach Basketball back to the top of the Big West Conference,” Monson said in an official statement.
Scholl came to LBSU in 2014 from Loyola Marymount. Woods has been an LBSU graduate student and manager for the last two years.
Braswell was an assistant at LBSU from 1989-92 under head coaches Joe Harrington and Seth Greenberg. He went on to coach Cal State Northridge from 1996-2013, and took the Matadors to the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and 2009. Braswell has been at UTEP as an assistant since 2016.
“Coach Braswell brings tremendous experience in all facets of the job,” Monson said. “He is someone I have competed against, and have great respect for as a coach as well as a person.”
