Athlete of the Week Long Beach Poly Wilson

The562.org’s Athletes Of The Week

This is the last Athletes of the Week for the 2017-18 season–congrats to all the winners and we’ll see you in the Fall!

Rachel Glenn, Wilson Track

Wilson sophomore Rachel Glenn cleared 5-10 in the high jump at last weekend’s CIF State Track & Field championships, and won the state championship in the event. The future is bright for Glenn, who is already the owner of a top 10 all-time state mark with a 5-11 clearance earlier this year.

Andrew Richards, Emari Bennett, Steven Camacho, Jordan Wiemer, Wilson Track

The Bruins quartet wanted to break Wilson’s school record all year, and last weekend they accomplished their goal at the end of the 100thannual CIF State meet. The Bruins finished third in a blazing 3:12.88, which would have been the winning time in all but nine of the last 100 state meets.

Ariyonna Augustine, Long Beach Poly Track

Augustine didn’t close her storied high school career with the gold medals she wanted, but she took silver in the 200 and bronze in the 100, also helping to lead Poly’s 4×100 quartet to a fourth-place finish at the State meet. Augustine graduates Poly next week and is headed to LSU.

Medina Miranda, Stanford Middle School

She didn’t compete on the oval but 7thgrade Stanford Middle School student Medina Miranda was the only Long Beach competitor to make it onto ESPN last weekend. That’s because Miranda qualified for the Finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where she finished in a tie for 21st.
