Local legend Misty May-Treanor added to her illustrious resume late last month when she was appointed as co-chair to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the great coaches and many opportunities to participate in many different sports,” May-Treanor said while standing next to President Donald Trump at the White House on May 30 during Sports and Fitness Day.
The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition creates and promotes programs that encourage all Americans to live healthier lives through regular physical activity and good nutrition. May-Treanor joins former New York Yankee Mariano Rivera and former professional football player Herschel Walker on the council.
May-Treanor, 40, is currently the Director of Volleyball Operations and Women’s Indoor and Beach Volleyball head coach at Long Beach City College. She won three consecutive beach volleyball Olympic gold medals (’04, ’08, ’12) after she led Long Beach State to a NCAA Division 1 Championship in 1998, and was named the National Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998.
May-Treanor was voted the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year for women’s indoor and beach volleyball this year. The LBCC women’s indoor volleyball team has gone 37-10 (12-3 in conference) in two years under May-Treanor. The beach volleyball team has gone 35-10 (14-4 in conference).
