The Long Beach Mizuno Volleyball Club had a great end to its summer season at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympics national championships in Detroit, as the club boasted a pair of national champions. Mizuno is owned and run by Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer and husband Matt Fuerbringer, who are the head coach and top assistant for the women’s volleyball team at Long Beach State.
The Mizuno girls 12U team won the gold medal in the National Division in Detroit, while the 15U team won the gold in the American Division.
The 12s went 10-1 while at the national championships, led by head coach Tiffany Rodriguez, with their lone defeat coming in pool play. They swept all three elimination games to seal the gold, including a 27-25, 25-19 win over ASICS Mavs in the title match.
