The Long Beach Poly girls’ volleyball team won another Tae Kim Lakewood/Molten Classic tournament game on Wednesday after St. Anthony opened its season with a historic league victory over Serra.
Poly edged Los Alamitos in a five-set thriller at Paramount 19-25, 25-19, 24-26, 26-24, 15-11. The Jackrabbits were led by 23 kills from Allanah Cutler. She also had eight digs and three aces. Adonia Faumuina had 18 kills for Poly, and setter Liz Schuster dished out 45 assists while collecting 10 digs and seven kills.
St. Anthony opened the season with a bang in a 25-8, 25-9, 25-9 over Serra on Tuesday. It was the first game in the new Del Rey League. Junior Isabella Bareford led the Saints with 16 aces, five kills and 26 assists. Outside hitters Noronzie Malala and Camille Harvey combined for 16 kills.
