Compton is trying to start its season 2-0 for the first time in eight years after beating Compton Centennial last week. The Tarbabes (1-0) are hosting Santa Monica tonight at 7 p.m.
“It’s always good to start 1-0 without playing a scrimmage,” Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. “We have to be focused on protecting the football and improving in all phases of the game.”
This is the season opener for Santa Monica. The Vikings lost to Compton 43-22 last season, but won this matchup in 2016.
“Santa Monica looks physical and fast,” Bryant said. “We must be able to mach their intensity and win in the trenches.”
Compton senior running backs Terrence Pratt and Niles Hibbert combined for 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries against Compton Centennial.
Compton is ranked No. 5 in Division 10.
