Millikan is on the road again this week facing another local team at Gahr, and once again its rush defense will be tested. The Rams used their defense to hold onto a 7-3 win at Carson last week. Millikan was out-gained by Carson 304-57.
“That’s one of the best defenses we’re going to see,” Millikan coach Justin Utupo said of Carson.
Gahr (1-0) opened its season with an impressive 54-28 victory at Jefferson. Running back Micah Bernard averaged over 200 yards per game last season.
“They can hurt us,” Utupo said. “We have to prepare the same way. I’m excited to see how we improve from last week. After that first win over a quality opponent, these guys can easily think they’ve arrived. We have a 24-hour rule where we celebrate for a day, and then it’s time to move on.”
Millikan beat Gahr last year, 26-16, but the Gladiators rolled over the Rams 50-18 in 2016. Millikan is ranked No. 4 in Division 7.
