Lakewood has won at least a share of the last five Moore League girls’ volleyball titles, and the Lancers opened league play with a typical 25-14, 25-13, 25-21 win at Millikan on Thursday.
Senior Julia Crawford had 17 kills, two hitting errors, and seven assists for the Lancers while setter Moni Vivao finished with 25 assists, nine kills, nine digs and three aces.
Millikan was able to hang with Lakewood at the start of all three sets, but Crawford served an 11-0 run in the middle of the first set, and then ended the second set by serving a 7-0 run.

Lakewood (5-3, 1-0) is ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, and continues league play at Wilson on Tuesday.
Millikan (6-2, 0-1) had its six-game winning streak snapped, and travels to St. Anthony on Tuesday. Junior Mina Barajas led the Rams with seven kills, and junior Julia Campbell had 10 digs.
Lakewood coach Mike Wadley said he wants his team to concentrate on the little things when taking on the Moore League outside of co-defending champs Poly.
“We were better in the second set on defense and being in the right spots off the block,” he said. “But we’re still not where we want to be as a team.”
