The Avalon Lancers have a difficult challenge at 3 p.m. this afternoon with their first road game of the year at Rolling Hills Prep.
Avalon (1-0) stomped Desert Christian 52-7 in the season opener on Catalina. The Lancers defense led by Jose Silva, Diego Rios, Calvin Rios and Cristo Hernandez contributed multiple sacks, turnovers, touchdowns and a safety.
Rolling Hills Prep (2-0, 1-0) is coming off of back-to-back 6-4 seasons under third-year coach Dan Spahr. The Huskies hadn’t won a league title since 2011, or beat Avalon since 2010, and they did both last year. The Lancers fell 48-14 in the season finale.
Senior running back James Lewis leads Rolling Hills Prep with eight yards per carry and two touchdowns. He’s also second on the team with seven tackles.
This is an Express 8-Man League game, and could go a long way in deciding the champion. Avalon won five consecutive league titles from 2012-16.
