PREVIEW: Jordan vs. Lakewood, Moore League Football

The Moore League opener at Jordan tonight at 7 between the Panthers and Lakewood Lancers will be a battle of very different offensive rushing attacks that have played very different competition.

Jordan (3-1) is having its best start in a decade thanks to victories over lower division opponents Rancho Dominguez, Lynwood and Norwalk. Lakewood (0-3) has played Florida powerhouse Windermere Prep (where Ray Lewis’s son played last year), and legit CIF-SS championship contenders Mayfair and Corona del Mar.

“I like playing better teams in preseason,” Lakewood coach Mike Christensen said. “It’s more fun and our kids get to see what it should be. That being said, I’m not feeling real good about our preseason. Our effort is getting better, but we do not prepare well enough yet.”

The Panthers shotgun offense has been led by junior quarterback Anthony Scott, who is averaging 6.3 yards per carry with five touchdowns, and senior running back DeShon Harris, who has 424 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

The Lancers power-I offense has been led by senior running back Sebastian Kronberger, who has 343 yards and two touchdowns. However, Kronberger (knee) will sit this game out. He rushed for 1,316 yards in eight games last season.

“We have some injuries that will challenge our depth,“ Christensen said. “(Jordan) can definitely beat us.”

Jordan hasn’t beaten Lakewood since 2008.

“Our team feels really good after a good week of practice,” Jordan coach Tim Wedlow said. “We’ve been playing better each week.”
