Here are some of the Long Beach sports events coming up this week.
WEDNESDAY
Moore League Cross Country at El Dorado Park, 4 p.m.

Moore League Boys’ Water Polo Showcase at Cabrillo High, 4 p.m.
The six local teams will kickoff the Moore League season this afternoon at Cabrillo for the annual showcase. Poly and Jordan will be the first game at 4 p.m., then Lakewood and Millikan will face off at 5:10. Wilson and Cabrillo will play the nightcap at 6:20. READ MORE in our season preview.
THURSDAY
High School Girls’ Volleyball, 4:30 p.m.
There are only five days of Moore League play left before the CIF Southern Section playoffs start on Oct. 16. League leaders Poly will be at home to face Compton while Lakewood hosts Wilson and Jordan travels to Cabrillo.
High School Girls’ Golf, 2:30 p.m.
Today marks the start of the second round of Moore League play for the five local teams, and four of them will be at Recreation Park Golf Course 18 this afternoon. League-leading Wilson will face Poly, while Lakewood takes on Cabrillo.
High School Girls’ Tennis, 3 p.m.
This is the last day of the first round of Moore League play for the eight local teams, and it’s their third match of the week. League leaders Poly will be at home to face Lakewood, and second-place Wilson will teak on CAMS at Cal State Dominguez Hills. In other action, Jordan is hosting Cabrillo while Compton travels to Millikan.
Long Beach State Women’s Soccer at Cal State Fullerton, 7 p.m.
The first game of the Big West Conference schedule pits rivals LBSU and Cal State Fullerton against each other. The 49ers and Titans were picked to finish second and third, respectively, in the conference behind UC Irvine. CSUF (3-7-1) is on a four-game losing streak, and has been outscored 19-14 this season. The Titans lead the all-time series with LBSU 8-12-2, and the Beach hasn’t beaten CSUF in the regular season since 2011.
FRIDAY
High School Football, 7 p.m.
The third week of Moore League football features a battle for second place positioning when Millikan visits Compton. The Rams are coming off of its dramatic win over rival Lakewood, and Compton is having its best season in a decade after opening league play with a win over Jordan. These teams have split their last two meetings.
In other league action, Poly is visiting Cabrillo while Wilson hosts Jordan. Meanwhile, Lakewood is visiting Camarillo for a non-league contest, and St. Anthony is opening Del Rey League play at Harvard-Westlake on Saturday night.
Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball at UC Santa Barbara, 7 p.m.
The 49ers continue Big West play with a trip up Interstate 101 for two matches in two nights. They start the road trip at Santa Barbara where the Gauchos are also 10-5 overall, and 2-1 in conference. UCSB is 3-1 at home this season, and LBSU is 3-2 on the road. Last year, the 49ers swept the Gauchos at Walter Pyramid, but lost a four-set match at Santa Barbara a month later.
SATURDAY
Long Beach City College Football at Cerritos, 6 p.m.
The Vikings (2-2) are coming off a disappointing loss to Riverside at home, and will be extra motivated this week as they renew their rivalry with Cerritos. The two local junior colleges haven’t played each other since LBCC beat the Falcons 34-30 in the 2015 Southern California Regional Playoffs.
Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball at Cal Poly, 7 p.m.
LBSU wraps up its three-game road trip tonight against Cal Poly in San Louis Obispo. The Mustangs (13-1, 3-0) are one of the best teams in the conference, and their only loss came against No. 20 Pittsburgh in the second game of the season. Cal Poly is on a 12-game winning streak.
