The Wilson Bruins used a heavy rotation of players and cruised to a 15-3 win over host Carbillo on Wednesday at the Moore League Boys’ Water Polo Showcase.
Six different Bruins scored the first six goals of the game, and Wilson had 10 different players contributed goals. Freshman Zac Crenshaw had a hat trick for the Bruins while senior Shane Nantais and freshman Gray Carson each scored twice. Wilson goalkeeper David Vandevert made a handful of saves before going out into the field and scoring a goal himself in the fourth quarter.
Cabrillo scored the last two goals of the first half on shots from Guy Gainer and Cory Thompson to make the halftime score 11-2. Thompson scored the third Jaguars goal on an assist from Steven Hernandez.
“Against a team like Wilson its always a high bar,” Cabrillo coach Lawrence Durand said. His team is ranked No. 3 in CIF-SS Division 7.
“I always tell my guys to just play a solid game, and to not be afraid because a lot of the time it’s a confidence thing,” he said. “It’s about working hard and playing until the wheels fall off. For the most part, I think we played our best game against Wilson.”
