The Avalon Lancers 8-Man football team is hosting its most important game of the regular season tonight when Sage Hill visits Catalina. This battle of undefeated teams is also for first place in the Express League.
“The boys take each opponent seriously, but this game will most likely be for the league championship,” Avalon coach Michael Forcella said.
Sage Hill (4-0, 1-0) has outscored its opponents 208-30 this season, and is ranked No. 24 in California, according to MaxPreps. Avalon is No. 14.
Avalon (4-0, 2-0) has outscored its opponents 163-39 while 10 different players have scored touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Adalberto Martinez and senior running back Jason Campos are both averaging over 100 yards per game. Senior Cristobal Hernandez leads the Lancers defense with 32 total tackles and 15 sacks.
The Lancers beat Sage Hill twice in 2016. Avalon won the regular season meeting 60-44, and then beat Sage Hill 43-7 in the playoffs.
