Cabrillo hasn’t had an easy go of it so far in the Moore League, but the Jaguars got their first league win and started what they hope will be a playoff push with a thriller over Jordan, 21-19.
“We had tough losses to Wilson and Poly,” said Jaguars coach Mike Ulufale. “The kids are aware we got to win out to get into the playoffs, and it started tonight.”
Jordan took a 7-0 lead as Isaac Ochoa hit Nehemiah Condon, but Brandon Vasquez hit Feso Kaowhili to bring Cabrillo back. Ochoa then found Aaron Savage to make it 13-6 Jordan, but that was the end of the Panthers’ scoring. Vasquez ran in the go ahead touchdown to put the Jaguars up 14-13 after the 2-point conversion. Vasquez then hit Frankie Olivares to put the Jaguars up 21-13 late in the first half.
Cabrillo (2-5, 1-2) will face Millikan, Compton and Lakewood to end the season while Jordan (3-5, 0-4) will close with Millikan and Poly.
