THURSDAY
High School Girls’ Tennis, 3 p.m.
The Moore League championship will be decided today as four-time defending champs Poly tries to clinch a fifth consecutive crown by beating rival Wilson at home. In other action, Millikan hosts Jordan and CAMS visits Cabrillo while Lakewood hosts Compton.
High School Girls’ Golf, 2:30 p.m.
This is the last day of Moore League play for the regular season, and champions Wilson are enjoying a bye. Poly is taking on Cabrillo at Recreation Park Golf Course, and Millikan is hosting Lakewood at El Dorado. The league individual tournament starts on Monday at Rec Park.
High School Boys’ Water Polo, 4 p.m.
Defending Moore League champions Wilson will have its toughest test of the league schedule today when it visits Millikan. In other action, Poly is visiting Cabrillo while Jordan hosts Lakewood.
Long Beach State Women’s Soccer vs. Cal Poly, 6 p.m.
This is the first of two matches at George Allen Field this week. LBSU and Cal Poly are tied for fifth in the Big West with four points each. Cal Poly goalkeeper Sophia Brown leads the conference with 92 saves this season. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 12-7-4 and won this matchup 3-2 at home last season.
FRIDAY
High School Football, 7 p.m.
The ninth week of Long Beach high school football features an old-school showdown between Lakewood and Compton in Hub City. These are two of the three best rushing attacks in the Moore League, and both 1-2 teams are coming off of league losses. The loser of this one could be eliminated from playoff contention. Compton hasn’t beaten Lakewood since 1997.
In other Moore League action, Poly is visiting Jordan and Millikan is hosting Cabrillo. St. Anthony is continuing Del Rey League play against St. Genevieve at Clark Field, and Avalon is continuing its 8-man season on Saturday against St. Michael’s Prep.
Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo at NorCal Tournament
A day after facing No. 3 Stanford on the road, LBSU will stay in Palo Alto to play four games in three days as part of the NorCal Tournament. The 49ers start the tournament today at 2:50 p.m. against UC Davis.
Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball at Hawaii, 10 p.m. PST
The Beach is headed to the big island this weekend to renew the rivalry with Hawaii (9-6, 5-1). LBSU and Hawaii have played some of the best and biggest women’s volleyball matches in the Walter Pyramid, and Hawaii leads the all-time series 33-18-1. LBSU hasn’t beaten Hawaii since 2016.
SATURDAY
Long Beach City College Football at East Los Angeles, 6 p.m.
The Vikings (3-2) are trying to win a fourth consecutive conference title this season, and that challenge starts tonight. East Los Angeles (2-3) and LBCC are both giving up more than 30 points per game this season, but the Vikings have the more potent offense with over 400 yards per game.
Long Beach State Cross Country at Highlander Invitational, 8 a.m.
This is the midway point for the LBSU cross country season as both men’s and women’s teams return to Riverside for the second time in a month for an elite competition.
SUNDAY
Long Beach State Women’s Soccer vs. UC Santa Barbara, 6 p.m.
The Beach is back in action this afternoon against UCSB (9-5-0, 2-1-0) in an important conference clash. UCSB Shaelan Murison leads the Big West in goals (9), points (22) and shots (58) this season. Mallory Hromatko has a conference-best six assists. LBSU leads this all-time series 15-11-1, but the Gauchos beat the Beach 3-0 last season.
