PREVIEW: Long Beach Poly at Jordan, Football

It’s going to be a strange sort of Homecoming for Jordan coach Tim Wedlow. For years, Wedlow was an assistant coach at Poly during some of the school’s glory years with Jerry Jaso, winning CIF-SS title after title. Now Wedlow is the head coach of the Panthers, a team that started 3-1 this season after an 0-10 season in 2017.

The Panthers have lost four straight league games since that hot start, including a close game last week to Cabrillo. Poly, on the other hand, is 4-0 in league and has outscored its league opponents 171-21, using a power-rushing attack to overwhelm foes.

Jordan’s first task will be trying to slow down Poly backs like Elijah Juarez, who is averaging 10.8 yards per carry, with nine touchdowns.

Poly (6-2, 4-0) will finish its regular season next week against Lakewood while Jordan (3-5, 0-4) will enjoy a bye before finishing against Millikan.
