St. Anthony knew going into Friday night’s game against St. Genevieve that they needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Despite heavy rain, lightning, and a mud pit in the middle of the field, the Saints kept pushing and perservered in a 20-7 win over the Valiants.
“If we can beat St. Genevieve, there’s a lot of intriguing scenarios,” said Saints coach Mario Morales before the game.
The win moves the Saints to 2-1 in the Del Rey League, with one game remaining next week against St. Paul at Clark Field. St. Paul and Harvard-Westlake have yet to play this week’s game, but if St. Paul defeats the Wolverines it would create a win-and-you’re-in situation for the Saints.
Nick Billoups had a pair of touchdowns for St. Anthony in the win over St. Genevieve.
