Find out where your favorite Long Beach teams are playing this weekend…
THURSDAY
High School Girls’ Golf, Noon
Today is the final round of the Moore League individual tournament at El Dorado Golf Course. It will be the only 18-hole round of the week after nine holes were played at Recreation Park and Skylinks on Monday and Tuesday. Wilson has won the last 18 league titles, and last five individual championships.
High School Girls’ Tennis, 3 p.m.
This is the final day of the regular season before the Moore League tournament next week. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Friday Oct. 26 at Billie Jean King Tennis Center. Today, league champions Poly will be visiting Lakewood while Wilson hosts CAMS, Compton travels to Millikan and Cabrillo hosts Jordan.
High School Boys’ Water Polo, 4 p.m.
There are only two games in the Moore League today as Millikan hosts Cabrillo and Poly travels to Lakewood for an important third-place showdown.
Long Beach State Women’s Soccer at UC Riverside, 7 p.m.
This is the second to last road game of the regular season for LBSU as they face a UC Riverside team that had the best Big West record in the nonconference schedule. The Highlanders are just 1-2-2 in conference play, but goalkeeper Annie Bailey leads the Big West in goals against (4), goals against average and save percentage.
Long Beach State Women’s Tennis at Southwest Regionals
The Beach will be in San Diego all weekend for the annual Southwest Regionals after hosting their own tournament two weeks ago. LBSU only has one more tournament left in the fall schedule.
FRIDAY
High School Football, 7 p.m.
Everyone had the Wilson at Millikan Moore League clash this week circled on the calendar before the season started. The two teams battled for second place last year, and that’s the case again this week as they come in with identical 5-3, 2-1 records. Last year, Millikan rolled to a 46-20 win on Saturday morning at Veterans Memorial Stadium because of the field turf construction at Wilson. These teams have split their last six meetings.
In other Moore League action, Long Beach Poly is visiting Lakewood while Cabrillo hosts Compton. Elsewhere, St. Anthony is hosting St. Paul at Clark Field.
Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball vs. UC Santa Barbara, 7 p.m.
The Beach is hosting three Big West matches in five days at Walter Pyramid this week, and this is the second meeting with UC Santa Barbara. LBSU lost in Santa Barbara late last month in four sets. UCSB was able to hit .253 against a solid LBSU defense on their way to victory.
Long Beach State Cross Country at Titan Invitational, 5 p.m.
This is the last regular season meet before the Big West Championships return to this same course in Fullerton on Oct. 27.
SATURDAY
Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo vs. No. 3 USC, 1 p.m.
The 49ers have another tough test at home against No. 3 USC today before hosting their annual Alumni Game at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. LBSU hosted No. 2 UCLA last month in front of a capacity crowd at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center, and only lost 9-7.
Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball vs. Cal Poly, 7 p.m.
This is the last match of the week for LBSU, and it will be their toughest home test in conference play. Cal Poly (17-1, 7-0) swept the 49ers last month 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 and limited the Beach to .177 hitting as a team.
Long Beach City College Football vs. Bakersfield, 5 p.m.
The Vikings (3-3, 0-1) will be back at Veterans Memorial Stadium this evening where they’ll try to pick up their first conference victory of the season. Last year, LBCC beat Bakersfield 47-41 in the Western State Bowl at Vets.
SUNDAY
Long Beach State Women’s Soccer vs. UC Irvine, 6 p.m.
This is the biggest match at George Allen Field so far this season as the first-place Anteaters visit the second-place 49ers. LBSU hasn’t lost to UCI since 2015, and that includes the 3-0 Big West Conference Tournament championship win in 2016. UCI beat the Beach in a scrimmage 1-0 before this season, and leads the all-time record 9-12-6.
