Division 3: Wilson @ Cypress, 6 p.m.
After limping through the last week of Moore League play, Wilson is healthy and ready for the playoffs, the part of the season that coach Carlos Briceno has been looking forward to all year.
“I knew Lakewood and Poly were going to be too much for us this year, but I really believe we’ve got a roster to make a run in Division 3,” said Briceno earlier this season.
The Bruins have a three-set loss to 19-4 Cypress already this year, but Wilson has improved greatly since their defeat to the Empire League champions.
“We have a jump start on our preparation for them, but I didn’t anticipate that we’d meet so soon,” said Briceno. “They have strong and athletic hitters, we’ll need to pass well.”
Libero/outside hitter Presley Parker can help stabilize things there, while Gabby Sonnhalter has proven herself one of the best players in the league, and a rare talent at the Division 3 level. Risa Sena is a powerful wild card for the Bruins who could put them over the top.
The winner will face the winner of Santa Monica and Thousand Oaks on Saturday–Wilson would host either team should the Bruins advance.
