Paced by a record-setting performance from senior Will Frankenfeld, Long Beach Poly’s boys’ cross country team finished third in the Team Sweepstakes championship last weekend at the Mt. SAC Invitational.
Frankenfeld finished third overall with a new Long Beach city record time of 14:47 on the three-mile course. That broke Poly and Cal distance runner Ozzie Pina’s 2000 record of 15:03.
Poly’s team time was 77:36, finishing behind Great Oak and La Costa Canyon. After Frankenfeld Poly was paced by Ronan McMahon-Staggs (14th, 15:17), Daniel Bautista (24th, 15:37), and Zane Witter (40th, 15:49).
The Poly boys are ranked No. 4 in the State in Division 1 and No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section in Division 1.
