PREVIEW: Lakewood vs. Cabrillo Football

After last week’s loss to Long Beach Poly, Lakewood coach Mike Christensen waved away any talk of Moore League playoff scenarios.

“Here’s what I know,” he said. “We’ve got to win next week. That’s all I need to know.”

Christensen is correct. The Lancers (2-7, 2-3) need a win over Cabrillo (2-7, 1-4) in order to have a realistic shot at the playoffs. Because their record already includes seven losses, Lakewood isn’t very likely to get an at-large bid, although it’s not technically impossible. Their best bet is to beat Cabrillo and then hope that Compton beats Wilson, creating a three-way tie for third place with an envelope draw to determine which team gets the league’s last automatic playoff berth.

The game itself will feature a clash of two power backs in Lakewood’s Sebastian Kronberger and Cabrillo’s Feso Kaowhili, both of whom are mid-major caliber football players that could be one great highlight reel away from a scholarship offer.

We’ll have live updates and a video highlight from the game.
