Poly is trying to return to former glory under first-year coach Anthony Perez. He was at Jordan last year after seven seasons coaching the lower levels at Poly. Now Perez is back to reinvigorate the program while welcoming back key players.
“We’re trying to get that Poly feeling going again after a tough year,” Perez said of the fourth-place league finish last season. “We have some heavy hitters that are coming back to play who didn’t play last year.”
Among those returning are Skylar Herrera, Allanah Cutler and Aniah Cutler. The senior Allanah Cutler, who was named Moore League girls’ volleyball Co-Player of the Year this season, will be a big target at striker while her younger sister sets into the back line in front of sophomore goalkeeper Kira Ybarra.
Perez said he wants his team to play a creative, aggressive style that puts a premium on possession.
“We have a high-energy, creative outlook,” Perez said. “I don’t have a bunch of robots out there. I have a bunch of girls who like to be creative on and off the ball. The idea is to let them play freely and allow them to create.”
