Cabrillo (9-0-2) has the experience and playing surface to really makes some noise this season. The Jaguars have eight starting seniors who are coming off of a disappointing fourth-place finish last year, and they’re playing the first full season on the new field turf on campus.
“I don’t want to say too much and jinx it, but it’s an unbelievable team to watch passing the ball and going forward,” Cabrillo coach Pay Noyes said. “We’re going to touch around people, and if they push up on us, we’re going over their heads because Arnold (Giron) is so fast.”
Giron (pictured) is back at forward after scoring 22 goals as a freshman last season. He will be supported by attacking midfielders Eduardo Mosqueda and Brayan Valenzuela. Mosqueda is a former academy player, and Valenzuela has moved back to Long Beach from Mexico.
Noyes said that senior midfielder Leo Corona, senior center back Jose Robles and junior goalkeeper Yancy Monterola will also be key to his teams success, which has come quickly.
The Jaguars won two games at the Santa Barbara College Cup Showcase over the weekend. They have outscored their opponents 34-6 this season, and are ranked No. 3 in Division 2.
