More surprising results on Wednesday capped the first two weeks of Moore League boys’ soccer action. Now the teams have to wait until after the holiday break to pick back up.
Wilson 3, Lakewood 0
The Bruins scored in the first 10 seconds of this game at home and never looked back on their way to a victory that keeps them in first place. Wilson had the better run of play all night by passing wide and using almost every inch of the new field turf on campus.
“Your home field should benefit you and finally it is,” Wilson coach C.J. Brewer said. “If we had all of this talent and didn’t have a nice field like this to play on it would be a shame. Thankfully, people voted the way that they did and we got it built in time for this to all come together.”
Senior Gustavo Cervantes helped Wilson earn the early lead by taking the opening kickoff wide down the flank. A second deflected cross into the box bounced to the back post where junior Zami Moscoso poked it home.
Wilson senior Carlos Mota scored the second goal in the 29th minute by scoring on a set piece rebound, and senior Daniel Frazier capped the scoring in the 46th minute with a clean header from a Jorge Montano corner kick. Wilson senior goalkeeper Norman Chang made five saves for the shutout.
The Bruins outshot the Lancers 14-8, and earned seven corner kicks.
Jordan 1, Cabrillo 0
The Panthers handed the Jaguars their first loss of the season thanks to Jason Recinos’ goal with about 10 minutes left to play. Jordan goalkeeper Steve Larios collected the clean sheet. Cabrillo has only given up eight goals in 15 games.
Long Beach Poly 1, Compton 0
Junior Alan Avila scored the game-winner in the 65th minute for Poly on the road after the Jackrabbits dominated the run of play and outshot Compton 19-3.
