The Long Beach Poly boys’ soccer team pulled off an improbable comeback on Thursday in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division playoffs at Santa Ana Valley.
Trailing 1-0 in the final minute, Poly’s Jossmar Briceño headed home the equalizer to force overtime. After a scoreless 20 minutes of extra time, the teams went to a penalty kick shootout.
Briceño, Eugene Taparro and Miguel Arroyo netted their PKs for the Jackrabbits while goalkeeper Matthew McCoy made an incredible three saves to secure the victory.

Poly (10-8-6) will host Riverside Poly on Saturday in the second round.
