The Long Beach State men’s volleyball team made history last weekend, and they did so in front of more than 3,000 fans. The team’s sweep of No. 4 UCLA was the 33rd consecutive home victory, which sets a new school record — the team hasn’t lost in the Pyramid since March 26, 2016. Long Beach was dominant all over the floor but especially at the end line as they racked up 12 aces in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 sweep.
Basketball
The Long Beach State basketball teams are coming off a tough week that included four Big West Conference losses. The toughest loss of the week came last Thursday night at Walter Pyramid where women’s basketball (7-17, 4-7) lost to UC Irvine 48-46 on a buzzer beater.
Sophomore Naomi Hunt tied her season-high with 21 points, while adding eight rebounds. In the 63-49 loss at Hawaii on Saturday, junior Cydnee Kinslow led the way for LBSU with a double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Men’s basketball (9-18, 3-8) suffered two close road losses at Cal State Fullerton 85-82, and at UC Davis 77-73. Senior Temidayo Yussuf is now only 38 points away from becoming the 13th player in LBSU history to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in his career.
Softball
Senior shortstop Nichole Fry salvaged the weekend on Sunday with a walkoff home run in extra innings against Oregon State. LBSU (4-5) lost the first three games of the Stacy Winsberg Invitational at LBSU Softball Complex. READ MORE

The Dirtbags (0-3) also lost three games this weekend in the season opening series at No. 3 Florida. Junior transfer Aidan Malm went 2-for-4 with a home run in Sunday’s 3-1 loss, and was one of 15 Dirtbags to make his LBSU debut over the weekend. LBSU (4-0, 2-0) stayed undefeated with a 4-1 win over Cal State Northridge last weekend at Rhodes Tennis Center.
Men’s Golf
Junior Hunter Epson recorded the first Top-5 finish of his career last week while LBSU finished third out of 10 teams at The Farms Invitational.
