A sluggish start doomed Long Beach City College men’s basketball in the state playoff regional final at Citrus. The Vikings only scored 25 points in the first half of their 93-78 season-ending defeat.
Jace Bass scored a team-high 32 points for LBCC, but Citrus’ Josh Caston scored a game-high 48 points after making 24-of-29 free throw attempts. Meanwhile, the Vikings were only 16-of-31 from the charity stripe. Matthew Wooten had a double double for LBCC with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Beach Volleyball
LBCC won matches against Rio Hondo College, Cypress College and WestCliff University. last week to improve to 7-2 overall. The teams of Brooke Gonsalves/Emma Harris, Kaitlyn Peterson/Elsa Woods and Isabella Alvarez/Doris Woods did not lose in show victories.
Men’s Volleyball
The Vikings (5-3, 1-1) swept both Antelope Valley and Santa Monica last week to get above .500 early in the season. Freshman outside hitter Kyle Anemia leads LBCC with 122 kills, 19 service aces and 44 digs.
Baseball
LBCC (9-10, 3-2) picked up its third win in the last four games after beating Rio Hondo 7-4 last Saturday. Shortstop Chris Rubottom had a game-high three hits, while center fielder Tyler Vargas and designated hitter David Balboa each drove in three runs. Balboa hit his first home run of the season in the win.
