Congratulations to all of this week’s winners and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.
Sierra Adams-Gregory, Lakewood Wrestling
Lakewood star Sierra Adams-Gregory was once again the best girls’ wrestler in Long Beach this year, earning Moore League Wrestler of the Year honors before winning a CIF-SS Masters championship and the Masters Upperweight MVP award. Adams-Gregory then went to State and was a medalist as a semifinalist.
Payne Lounsbery, Wilson Volleyball
Sophomore Payne Lounsbery led Wilson to an opening-day sweep of Millikan, proving once again that he’s one of the best young players in SoCal. Lounsbery had seven kills and also set for the Bruins. That weekend, he then competed with partner Connor Bloom in the Men’s B Tournament in Santa Monica and took second.
Will Frankenfeld, Long Beach Poly Track
Poly’s Will Frankenfeld had a historically good Fall as the top cross country runner in Southern California, and it looks like this spring will be special too. Frankenfeld ran his first two-mile race of the track and field season last weekend, and ran a 9:12.13, for the fastest time in the state of California so far in 2019.
Rachel Glenn, Wilson Track
Wilson junior Rachel Glenn is one of the brightest track and field stars in California this year, having won the state high jump championship as a sophomore last year. Glenn might be adding to her trophy case in a big way this year. She hasn’t high jumped yet but she did just run a California state-leading time of 55.45 in the 400.
