The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to six games last week with wins over Santa Barbara and Pierce in the Hall Of Champions Gym. The Vikings (11-3, 6-1) are still ranked No. 3 in California, and will be at home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against El Camino.

LBCC needed all five sets to take down No. 4 Santa Barbara 25-9, 18-25, 23-25, 29-27, 15-10. Freshman outside hitter Kyle Anema led the balanced Vikings attack with 15 kills on 24 swings. Freshmen opposite hitters Vinicius da Silva and Uriel Batista each chipped in nine kills, and de Silva added 10 digs.

Baseball

The Vikings (15-10, 9-2) ran its winning streak to seven games by sweeping L.A. Harbor last week in conference action. LBCC won the first game 7-6 and then dominated the next two games by a combined score of 20-6.

Sophomore Garrett Rennie and freshman Sebastian Irwin have been phenomenal on the mound for LBCC. Rennie (4-2, 2.18 ERA) has 53 strikeouts in 53.2 innings, and the Lakewood High alum Irwin (3-1, 2.06 ERA) has only walked eight batters in 39.1 innings. Sophomore Mark Stanford has a team-high 22 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Sophomore Raul Gonzalez has a team-high 33 hits.

The Vikings are hosting Mt. SAC today at 2 p.m.

Softball

LBCC (14-13, 6-7) beat Allan Hancock 8-3 in its first game of the Ventura Spring Tournament last week, but then lost its next two games to Ventura and Antelope Valley. Shortstop Jade Wittman and first baseman Ashley Pozo provided most of the offense in the win over Allan Hancock. Wittman had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Polo had two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.

LBCC hosts Cerritos at 3 p.m. today.

Swimming

The Vikings were at El Camino last weekend for a dual meet with East Los Angeles also on hand, and the women’s team won while the men finished second behind El Camino. LBCC is at Rio Hondo this weekend for another dual with Cerritos.
