Boys’ Volleyball: Lakewood Shocks Poly, Ties With Millikan For League Lead
It was always going to be a wild boys’ volleyball season in the Moore League in 2019, and the first round ended with fireworks. Lakewood fell behind 2-0 on the road at Long Beach Poly before pulling off the reverse sweep, beating the Jackrabbits in five sets, 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-13.
The win puts Lakewood and Millikan into a tie for first place in the league at the midway point, with one loss apiece. Poly and Wilson are tied for third place with two losses each.
“They had Teilon under wraps the first two sets and we made some adjustments to get him more looks out of the back row,” said Lakewood coach Tommy Dube.
BYU commit Teilon Tufuga was indeed struggling after the first two sets, but unleashed his full game to close the match out. In the fifth set he had six kills.
“I think we’re getting better, we were too lax the first two sets,” said Tufuga. “We’re playing well, we just need to keep being consistent.”
