Top skippers from around the world are in Long Beach for the 55th Congressional Cup. The week-long sailing competition hosted by the Long Beach Yacht Club off of Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier features exciting match racing and play-by-play from celebrity commentator Tucker Thompson.
Johnie Berntsson (SWE) and his orange-clad Berntsson Sailing Team has dominated the first two days, winning all but one race. With the first round robins complete Berntsson is 11-1, Taylor Canfield (USA) is 9-2 and Ian Williams (GBR) and Scott Dickson (USA) each trail by one point.
Founded by Long Beach Yacht Club in 1965, the Congressional Cup has set the standard for top-level match racing worldwide while pioneering the concept of on-the-water umpiring in a spectator-friendly venue. Racing for the 55th Congressional Cup trophy, and the esteemed Crimson Blazer, continues through Sunday.
