Long Beach Poly Girls’ Swim Wins CIF-SS Academic Award

The Long Beach Poly girls’ swim team won an historic fourth consecutive Moore League championship last week, and the Jackrabbits have already won their second banner of the season. The CIF Southern Section announced its academic award winners, and the Jackrabbits were one of the winners thanks to having the highest team GPA of any school in their sport. Poly’s cumulative GPA for the girls’ swim program is 3.87.

In addition to the top honors for the Poly girls’ swim team, 55 other Long Beach teams received recognition on the CIF-SS release, including a record 24 programs from Wilson.

The Bruins’ girls’ soccer team had the second-best GPA, the boys’ and girls’ swimming teams both had the third-best GPA, and the cheer, boys’ volleyball, girls’ water polo, and boys’ wrestling teams had the fifth-best GPA. The Poly boys’ golf team was the only other Long Beach program to finish in the top five, with the fourth-best GPA.

Poly’s Isaac Richardson and Kate Sarantos received student-athlete of the year honors from their school, while Max Berg and Carolina Newton received that honor at Wilson.

The Wilson sports receiving honorable mention recognition were baseball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ cross country, football, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ soccer, softball, boys’ and girls’ tennis, boys’ and girls’ track and field, girls’ volleyball, boys’ water polo, and girls’ wrestling.

Poly’s girls’ golf and boys’ water polo teams received honorable mention honors.

St. Anthony’s honorable mention honorees were baseball, girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ cross country, football, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ soccer, softball, boys’ and girls’ track and field, cheer, and boys’ and girls’ volleyball.
