Jenna Sonnenberg, Millikan Diving
Millikan junior Jenna Sonnenberg won her second CIF Southern Section diving championship this week, and set a new CIF-SS Division 2 scoring record in the process, putting up a 596.70 with her 11 dives. Sonnenberg won the championship last year with a score of 514.30.
Laura Faynor, Millikan Gymnastics
Millikan’s Laura Faynor dominated the Moore League gymnastics finals on Friday at Millikan High. Faynor won the individual title with wins in the vault, bars, and beam. It was Millikan’s ninth team title in the last ten years.
Hank Rivers, Wilson Swimming
Wilson freshman Hank Rivers helped lead his team to a fifth-place CIF-SS Finals finish in the medley relay, breaking a 41-year old school record. Rivers also won an individual CIF-SS championship in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.39, breaking a four decades-old school record.
Brandon Bennett, Wilson Golf
Wilson’s Brandon Bennett won the individual Moore League boys’ golf championship last week. Wilson claimed the top six spots in the tournament, and Bennett’s win was the 27th time a Bruin has claimed the league’s individual championship.
